On the night, Structural Soils won UK Geotechnical Team of the Year for its work and support on the Transpennine Rail Upgrade (TRU) West project for TRU West Alliance. As part of a team of eight organisations, Structural Soils provided the project with specialist geotechnical services to support the expansion of the line between Manchester and Leeds. The award celebrates the success of collaborative projects, recognising the whole team for its strong team culture, delivery focus and joint activities that achieve results. Structural Soils was also highly commended as Ground Investigation Specialist of the Year, which commends contractors for their dedication to delivering quality services and innovation.
“Working together in such a large team has been difficult at times with many challenges to overcome. What makes the team successful is the aligned goals we share, open communication and the ability to help one another when needed,” commented Jess Evans, Geotechnical Engineer, on the project.
Jon Bassett, Operations Director, added: “The Structural Soils northern teams have worked very hard on the TRU project for a number of years as part of the alliance through some challenging ground conditions, access conditions and weather, so it is great that they have received this recognition. A huge amount of data has been collected, both in the field and in the lab, leading to an equally huge reporting challenge. Well done to everybody from Structural Soils and our alliance partners who have worked on this project, an award well earned.”

Central Alliance was also recognised at the awards evening, receiving two ‘highly commended’ awards for its work over the past 18 months. The team at Central Alliance was highly commended as Specialist Geotechnical Supplier of the Year for its work supplying geotechnical services to clients to the highest possible standard. Additionally, the team received ‘highly commended’ recognition in the Award for Technical Excellence. Alongside project partners ASTERRA and Network Rail Design Delivery, the team was commended for its Groundsat soil moisture mapping and analysis for the Severn Estuary Earthworks project. The Award for Technical Excellence recognises innovative new approaches to analysis, design or procedure that improve the delivery of project work to the client.
Congratulations to the teams at Structural Soils and Central Alliance on their success.
