“The morning was a great success, and all of the lads and lasses I’ve spoken with during the day thought it was excellent to be involved,” says Structural Soils’ Nick Gerlach, who organised the event. “Many were unaware of SSAFA as an organisation, and I had quite a few discussions on my rounds today about their family and colleagues who have served, some of whom have faced challenges during and after their time served. Everyone felt that it was fitting and very comforting that care and support is available for those who need it.
“The best news is that we managed to raise £262 in the hour or so that we enjoyed together as a team.”
“SSAFA is particularly indebted to Nick Gerlach, whose brother served with the Royal Engineers in Bosnia, for organising the event and for allowing the hard-working team to take a brief break from their morning schedule to give generously and enjoy a fabulous spread of cakes in support of a very worthy cause,” adds Hugh Toler, the SSAFA Branch Chairman for Essex.
Many thanks also go to Helen, Elly and Cat, seen here with Nick (above), who worked so hard to produce the delicious cakes.
