In August over a three-week period, Structural Soils completed a site investigation comprising trial pitting, concrete coring and window sampling at the site for AMCO Rail. AMCO aims to increase the volume of water that can flow through the flood culvert to help prevent future flooding in the area, which has a high-priority railway line going through it, southwest from Exeter.
“The project was quite challenging,” comments Structural Soils engineer Helen Jones. “The access to the site where we were due to be working was flooded so there were a lot of health and safety factors that had to be considered. We were also working with heavy equipment, time constraints were tight and there were many different crews to manage. However, the team worked well with the client to overcome the health and safety problems and did an excellent job; it’s great that the client has recognised this.”

A representative from AMCO commented, “Thanks for your hard work and commitment during the work.”
Well done to the team, which comprised Helen Jones, Phil Guinness, David Hunt, Jordan Evans, Martin Reeves, Rich Douglas, Joe Leigh, Chris Dawes and Mariusz Zgrzebnicki.
