Structural Soils undertakes ground investigations in the role of principal contractor or contractor under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 on projects of all scales. We have certified processes, procedures and documented systems that reflect both legal and best working practice. We have developed these systems to cover and manage the operations of subcontractors and other contractors working in our area of responsibility. These roles allow the promotion and inclusion of smaller businesses or contractors to work with us as a team on site.
Senior and project managers are appointed at the point of contract award and are responsible for overseeing the day to day running of all contracts. Our senior technical staff review each stage of the project from tendering through to final deliverables. Our non-confrontational approach enables us to maintain good relations with client representatives and other stakeholders, and assists in the effective delivery of our works.
Through experience, monitoring and review, we identify and implement measures that allow continual improvement. Client-specific requirements are documented and incorporated, performance being measured against key performance indicators for quality, health, safety, environmental and corporate responsibility performance.
Our highly trained and qualified employees prepare, manage and implement safe systems of work designed to suit project requirements. Our safety behavioural training programme empowers all staff and the subcontractors they manage to take an active role in keeping our sites safe.
All areas of our business activity, including our testing laboratories, are covered by certification to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 as an integrated management system to consistently provide the highest standard of quality and professionalism. These certifications are subject to twice-yearly external audit by Det Norske Veritas to ensure ongoing compliance.
Our geotechnical laboratories are all accredited to UKAS ISO 17025:2017 for geotechnical testing of soil, rock and materials. Envirolab, our sister company, undertakes geoenvironmental testing on organic and inorganic soil, rock and anthropogenic materials. Envirolab is also accredited to UKAS ISO 17025:2017 alongside MCERTS accreditation for the majority of its chemical analyses/testing.
